COST ENGINEER

Ready to work with purpose? Look no further, we are hiring for a motivated Cost Engineer to join our St. Louis-Maryland Heights team.

The Cost Engineer will oversee the budget, accounting, and financials for the Engineering Department. The Cost Engineer will prepare the annual expense budget, capital budget, and CIP (Construction in Progress) estimate, and then complete a monthly cash flow report, monthly forecasts and other reports as requested. The Cost Engineer will manage both the invoice approval process, monitor project funding, route and track approvals and the project financial closeout process for the Department. 

The Cost Engineer will be the interface between the Engineering Department, the finance Department, Accounting and Procurement Department communicating directly with them to ensure alignment with existing policies and procedures, identifying taxation requirements, monitoring, and proper payment of vendor invoices.

The Cost Engineer may be assigned to assist a project engineers/manager with specific capital projects, preform ad hoc analysis, studies, reviews and reports as requested by the Manage/TL Project Engineering.

 

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

The Cost Engineer will oversee the budget and all financial and accounting aspects of the Engineering Department:

  • Create weekly/monthly budget reports (capital and expense) for Engineering Department; including KPIs and cost reports/trends.
  • Prepare Yearly Department Expense Budget and keep department on track to meet budget.
  • Prepare yearly department capital budget and keep department on track to meet budget
  • Collect data from project engineers/managers and prepare monthly capital forecasts and trending reports.
  • Manage project financial close out process and coordinate with Finance Department on all cost issues and processing of requests.
  • Collect data from project engineers/managers and prepare CIP estimate and keep department on track to meet budget.
  • Manage invoice approval process and follow up invoicing process.
  • Ensure accruals are entered as required.
  • Ensure tax requirements are met before expenses are processed.
  • Ensure alignment with financial procedures and policies.
  • Seamless 2-way communication with site finance, accounting and procurement departments

The Cost Engineer may be assigned to support specific engineering capital projects or special projects as assigned.

  • Prepare CPAs (capital project budget requests).
  • Ensure CPAs include all costs.
  • Support project Estimating
  • Work directly with 3rd Party Construction Managers
  • Prepare project change notifications and project cancellation forms.
  • Support IT and Tooling Group for the CPA process, reporting cost status, purchasing packets for PO and close projects. 
  • Review close forms for accuracy.
  • Manage all change orders for accuracy manage all change orders for their effect on the budget and report negative impacts.
  • Review WBS and related spending.
  • Complete initial cost estimation plus actual comparisons.
  • Prepare capital and cash flow forecasts and trending.
  • Review finance impact of project changes
  • Collect lien waivers.
  • Monitor foreign currency impacts.
  • Review invoices and complete invoice reconciliation and purchasing in D365.
  • Arrange for correct progress payments.
  • Assess material deliveries claimed and ensure proper documentation.
  • Determine when work is complete enough to pay suppliers.
  • Track project status in Smartsheets and spend.
  • Provide support for Duodote, IT and Tooling Group for CAPA process and Purchasing Packets for PO and close projects.
  •  Review/Expedite close forms for Accuracy and readiness for submission for finance

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business /Finance or Construction Management
  • Must have 5+ years of project cost controls experience within and manufacturing or construction environment.
  • Proficient in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and SharePoint.
  • Ability to be flexible, resilient, and adaptable to changing priorities in a faced paced high-pressure environment.
  • Must have the ability to work effectively under strict production, time and performance deadlines.
  • Must have the ability to simultaneously multitask across multiple capabilities and functions and handle multiple competing priorities and requirements, including performing site and functional responsibilities, responding to e-mails and phone communications and attending multiple meetings and conference calls.
  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse work force.
  • Initiative-taker, self-motivated, little supervision required.
  • Leadership capability.
