CNA-MEDICATION AIDE, BROOKSIDE
CERTIFIED NURSING ASSISTANT - MEDICATION AIDE
Medication Aides are Certified Nursing Assistants who have completed an approved nursing home medication aide training program at a college or technical school and have received additional certification to administer medications and perform nonsterile treatments in a skilled nursing facility in Wisconsin. The nursing home medication aide program contains a minimum of 100 hours of instruction, of which 60 hours are spent in classroom instruction and 40 hours are clinical experience in a nursing home.
The basic function of the Certified Nursing Assistant - Medication Aide is to safely administer medications prescribed by a physician according to facility policy and procedure, using the "5 Rights of Medication Administration" which are: 1-Right Drug, 2-Right Patient, 3-Right Dosage, 4-Right Time, 5-Right Route. The CNA-MA performs the delegated function of medication administration under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. Routes of administration include oral, topical, eye, ear, and nose; vaginal; rectal; and transdermal.

WORK SCHEDULE
- Two part-time positions available; may work up to 40 hours per week
- Day or evening shift available
- Must work alternating weekends and holidays
2023 PAY RANGE FOR CNA;
ADDITIONAL $2.00 PER HOUR WHEN PERFORMING MEDICATION AIDE DUTIES
- Minimum = $17.43 per hour
- Midpoint = $19.79 per hour
- Maximum = $22.15 per hour
- Starting pay commensurate with experience
- Benefits are pro-rated for part-time employees
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Duties are performed under the supervision of a Nursing Supervisor or RN Charge Nurse and include:
- Pass medications, adhering to facility policy and procedure and the 5 rights of medication administration
- Document in nurses notes any pertinent facts that occurred while administering medications to the resident, such as difficulty swallowing, combativeness, or refusal
- Measure and document vital signs as assigned
- Administer PRN medications and treatments to residents after the RN has assessed the resident and has given instructions to administer the PRN; chart the effectiveness of the medication
- Instill eye drops, give vaginal or rectal suppositories.
- Assist residents with feeding, grooming, ambulation, etc.
- Re-order bulk supply, eye drops, ointment, etc.
- Obtain missing medications from the contingency box
- Assist a nurse with schedule II count
- Do topical skin treatments after RN assessment
- Perform blood glucose testing per physician orders and record results
- Adhere to professional standards, policies, and procedures
- Perform other duties as required or assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- Prior experience in a nursing home setting or hospital preferred but not required
- Or any combination of education, training, and experience which provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the job
Licenses or Certifications
- Currently listed as a CNA on the Wisconsin Nurse Aide Registry as eligible for state and federal facilities
- Currently listed as a Medication Aide on the Wisconsin Medication Aide Registry
- Valid driver’s license

- Work with physicians, nurses, attendants, residents, and the general public
- Understand and follow oral and written instructions and assignments
- Maintain effective communication and open, collaborative relationships with nursing and other facility staff
- Communicate effectively with residents, family members or responsible parties, staff, physicians, and others as required
