The Kenosha County Parks Division is accepting applications for Lifeguards to work at the County’s public beach, located at Silver Lake Park, for the 2019 season – Memorial Day through Labor Day weekends.

 

Under the direct supervision of the Beach Manager, seasonal Lifeguards are responsible for supervising the safety and activities of beach patrons.  We are looking for hardworking individuals to maintain a safe environment, enforce beach rules, and consistently act in a manner that earns and merits the respect and confidence of patrons.

 

Enlistment Bonus

Hired lifeguards will receive a $300.00 bonus.

 

Bonus will be awarded if employee works an entire season from Memorial Day through Labor Day OR awarded to reimburse necessary certifications related to the job requirements. If you are offered a job as a lifeguard for Kenosha County and do not accept the position, you will be required to refund the County the entire amount of your reimbursement. Securing the necessary certifications/renewals is not a guarantee of employment with Kenosha County.  All candidates must pass the selection criteria established for the Lifeguard position. 

 

WORK SCHEDULE

  • Beaches are open from Memorial Day through Labor Day. 

  • Lifeguards work a full-time schedule up to 40 hours per week, with rotating days off, weekends. 

  • Work schedules are weather and water quality conditions permitting.

  • The work hours are typically 10:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M.

  • Lifeguards are required to work evenings, weekends, and holidays. 

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supervise beaches and surrounding swimming areas to maintain order and protect swimmers from accidents or drowning.

  • Enforce rules and regulations.

  • Operate safety equipment, administer first aid, rescue and resuscitate drowning persons, as required.

  • Assist in cleaning and beach maintenance.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Licenses or Certifications

  • Current American Red Cross (ARC) Lifeguard Training OR Ellis & Associates (Ellis) Lifeguard Training

  • ARC OR Ellis Waterfront Lifeguarding

  • ARC OR Ellis Lifeguard Training Instructor

  • CPR for the Professional Rescuer certification

 

Other Job Requirements

  • Must be at least 16 years of age at time of application.

  • Accept, understand, and follow written and/or verbal instruction.

  • Observe safety precautions.

  • Enforce rules and regulations in an effective and appropriate manner.

  • Perform semi-skilled and skilled tasks outdoors related to beach, grounds, and facility maintenance.

  • Maintain positive interactions with the public, employees, and others.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Requires full range of physical movement – bending, reaching, lifting, etc.

  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Ability to work outside in any weather conditions, including extreme heat.

 

SELECTION PROCESS

  • Application Review - Qualifying

  • Oral Interview – Qualifying

  • Verification of Certifications – Qualifying

  • Drug Screen – Qualifying
