Internship Title – Probabilistic Analysis of Energy Assessment 
Department – Advanced Technology Solutions
Minimum Education level: PhD
Preferred Majors: Computer Science, Statistics, or Electrical/Industrial Engineering

Department description: 
The Advanced Technology Solutions (ATS) department engages in both long-term research projects and near-term design/process improvements. The department consists of experts in three topic areas: power systems, simulations, and markets. In all projects, the goal of ATS is to provide innovative and practical solutions to current and emerging questions for ISO New England.

What will you be working on:
ISO New England performs a 21-day energy assessment forecast to provide an energy supply outlook of anticipated power system conditions. The goal of this internship is to enhance the 21-day energy assessment tool by incorporating probabilistic analysis and risk analysis capability. By considering many possible realizations of fuel supply, weather and electricity demand, the intern is expected to develop methodologies to identify key risk factors and visualize data.

How will you make an impact:
By incorporating probabilistic analysis capability in the 21-day energy assessment tool, operators/decision makers can make more informed decisions by evaluating the energy risk of many possible outcomes, rather than only the best and worst cases.

What we look for in a candidate:
  • 2 or 3 year of a PhD program in computer science, statistics, or electrical/industrial engineering
  • Have experience with analyze a large amount of data, and visualize data.  
  • Deep knowledge of data analysis and risk analysis
  • Familiar with electric power system
  • Ability to investigate issues and solve problems independently as well as collaboratively
