Job Overview

This is a union position.
 

The Employment specialist (ES) will be responsible for assisting clients with obtaining employment and for the development of job opportunities for clients with various companies within the community. The ES will be responsible for providing training services as well as overseeing the placement of clients in paid and unpaid positions in the community. Responsibilities will also include maintaining Employment Board onsite and developing policies and procedures for consumers to access employment services and to provide case management as needed. Additionally, the ES will network with community leaders and employers to identify job opportunities for clients.

The primary duties for ES include Provide field-based and onsite employment-related case management services to assist clients in obtaining and maintaining sustainable employment including provision of job readiness skills training such as resume development, interviewing skills and job search techniques. The ES is expected to develop relationships with prospective employers including outreach and attendance to hiring events, connect with outside resources such as EDD, Department of Rehabilitation, Department of Public Social Services, vocational schools and community-based organizations to ensure clients have access to available services. ES is expected to maintain billable service and documentation standards as set forth by internal and external policies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide field-based and onsite employment-related case management services in the areas of, but not limited to: community integration, employment linkage, procurement of benefits and all other services needed to assist clients in reaching their Individualized service plan goals.
  • Provide service coordination to assist clients in obtaining and maintaining sustainable employment.
  • Conduct employability assessments of potential participants, including assessing readiness for work, physical and mental capabilities.
  • Develop and update Individualized Employment Plans for enrolled participants.
  • Maintain complete and accurate records and ensure timely updates on client participation and progress.
  • Provide job readiness skills training such as resume development, interviewing skills and job search techniques.
  • Provide career counseling and job coaching, arrange interviews with employers and work one-on-one with clients on job retention.
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with prospective employers, including outreach and attendance to hiring events.
  • Coordinate recruitments with employers.
  • Connect with outside resources such as EDD, Department of Rehabilitation, Department of Public Social Services, vocational schools and community-based organizations to ensure clients have access to available services.
  • Maintain documentation standards as set forth by internal and external policies.
  • Develop policies and procedures for consumers to access employment services. 
  • Provide assistance with vocational/educational needs.

Education and Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Excellent time management and organizational skills including ability to set goals, provide timely performance feedback.
  • Experience with effective treatment and management of clients with co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders.
  • Knowledge of and experience with providing culturally competent services.
  • Passion, determination and commitment to Prototypes’ mission.
  • Self-motivated, dependable, creative and proactive approach to work; understands the importance of working independently and within a team environment.
  • Openness to and comfort with change; and the ability to motivate and facilitate change in others.
  • Strong computer skills, including Outlook, Excel, and Word.
  • Excellent written and verbal skills.
  • High degree of self-awareness and self-regulation.
  • Knowledge and respect of all confidentiality issues.
  • Acts with a sense of urgency to ensure the highest quality of care possible for our clients.
  • Dependable automobile and insurance, registration and valid California Driver’s License.
  • Bilingual (Spanish) strongly preferred for position.
