Wheelchair Production Operator - Sioux Falls

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  

1. Coordination of wheelchair production and assembly processes resulting in efficient and timely manufacturing output.  

2. Count and manage inventory in maintaining adequate supply.  

3. Assure quality production of wheelchairs by understanding machining calculation, calibration, and troubleshooting.   

4. Boxing and stacking wheelchairs and supplies for shipment.  

5. Work 1-2 days per week in prison and support production staff.  

6. Provide support to staff and volunteers involved in wheelchair production and operating equipment in shops.  

7. Supervise inmates and complete training with the South Dakota DOC.   

8. Follow all applicable laws and regulations regarding the operation of trucks.  

9. Follow all safety procedures and promote safety procedures.  

10. Other duties as assigned.   

Qualifications: 

1. Must have basic mechanical skills to operate power tools including saws and drills in manufacturing wheelchairs. 

2. Possess a valid driver’s license and ability to acquire Class D license. Is an insurable driver with Hope Haven’s insurance company. Able to obtain and maintain “DOT Card” as required by current laws/regulations.  

3. Ability to drive 26 foot truck to pick up and deliver supplies.  

4. Valid forklift operator’s license.    

5. Clearance from all applicable background checks as required by service standards.  

6. Ability to pass a health assessment at time of hire and ability to maintain up to date health assessment as requested per regulations.  

7. High school graduate or ability to obtain GED/HSED; Mechanical and wheelchair knowledge preferred.  

8. Good communication (verbal and written), organizational and leadership skills.  

9. Computer literate or have basic knowledge computer skills.  

10. Ability to exercise sound judgment in making decisions.  

11. Ability to complete Hope Haven courses and/or required orientation training and all other agency requirements.  

12. Reliable Transportation.  

13. Provide proof of state minimum liability insurance coverage. 

Physical Requirements: 

1. Requires the physical ability to load and/or unload a complete 40-foot container of wheelchairs and related equipment including lifting a minimum of 60 lbs.  

2. Requires the physical ability to operate forklift & light machinery.  

3. Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
