SUMMARY

Provide and/or coordinate full estimating services on large, complex work and all types of contracts.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Review and incorporate historical data from purchase orders, subcontracts, productivity analysis reports, etc. into unit and man hour figures.
  • Review proposal specifications, drawings, attend pre-bid meetings, etc. to determine scope of work and required contents of estimate.
  • Provide complete conceptual (or bid work) and final estimating input on complex projects.
  • Provide technical support to personnel preparing discipline estimates for assigned bids.
  • Ensure all working documents and data are maintained to back-up estimate figures.
  • Assist contracting department during preparation of inquiries and final evaluation of submitted bids as required.
  • Track awarded contracts as required - may include estimating/pricing extra work items, change orders, credit, procuring materials, etc.

QUALIFICATIONS The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Education and/or Experience

Bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent combinations technical training and/or related experience.

5-8 years estimating, cost control, and/or engineering experience (at least 4 years estimating experience) in similar facility construction.  Thorough knowledge of company procedures, estimating techniques, all engineering disciplines, cost control systems and accounts required.  Broad knowledge and understanding of civil construction and methods including grading and earthwork, drainage, paving, etc.  Advanced understanding of the project life cycle, including bid, proposal, and estimation process, and project management.  Ability to estimate all types of projects/contracts (e.g., Design Build, CMAR, Design-Bid-Build, etc.), plus ability to coordinate and supervise group work effort essential.  Ability to prepare complex proposals with minimal supervision.  Strong written and verbal communication skills.  Ability to negotiate to drive revenue.  Excellent MS Office skills are required, in addition to experience utilizing scheduling and bid/estimating software.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to type, handle, or feel and talk or hear.  The employee is frequently required to stand; walk and sit.  The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
