The Granite YMCA is seeking an Assistant Coach for our USA registered competitive swim team. We have 60 - 75 swimmers ages 6 to 18 years. Our team consists of three levels of development, grouped by ability and age, each of those groups has their own practice times.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate characteristics of being reliable, positive and enthusiastic toward our swimmers, will have good knowledge of competitive swimming and have the ability and desire to impart that knowledge to swimmers of all ages. Hiring start date as soon as possible. Prior experience coaching, being a competitive swimmer, and USA Coaches Certification are preferred, though flexible to train other candidates with a background in youth sports and development.

Schedule:

     Our Fall/Winter short course season begins in mid-September and runs through the end of March. Spring session focuses on technique training only. The summer long course season runs from June to August. Practice schedules vary by group and by season, during the fall/winter season the beginner group practices twice a week, the intermediate group practices 3 times a week, and the advanced group practices 5 days a week. Summer practices are Tu/W/Th mornings outdoors at Rollins park and Tu/Th evenings at the Y pool.  Additionally, we have weekend meets.

Responsibilities: 

• Support and facilitate scheduled swim practices for a variety of age and ability groups 
• Coach and instruct swimmers regarding stroke techniques, workout philosophies and competitive strategies to help them develop their swimming skills
• Participate in practice design and meet set up and support at swim meets and other team functions
• Help determine swimmers’ events for meet entries
• Maintain open communication with parents to ensure education and communication on all aspects of long-term development
