Title: Food Service Worker

Unit: Food & Nutrition

Reports to: Manager for Food & Nutrition Services

Status: Full-Time; Regular; Non-Exempt

Location: Long Island City

Days/Hours: Monday – Thursday, 9:30 am-5:30pm, Friday 8 am – 3 pm


Position Summary:

This individual will be responsible for serving food at the main office in Long Island City (Queens), NY. Their duties will include adhering to NYCDOMH food handing standards, portioning and serving food, maintaining cleanliness and setup of front of the house area, assisting with cold prep and production as needed. The Food Service Worker will also assist with special events and any other food service needs as directed.  Travel to Harlem kitchen location may be required, depending on the needs of the business.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Portioning and serving food
  • Maintaining cleanliness of food line
  • Monitoring food holding temperature
  • Replenishing food as needed
  • Adhering to NYCDOMH Food Codes

 

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • NYC Food Handlers Certification required
  • Food Service experience a plus, but not necessary
  • Strong oral communication skills required;
  • Ability to work as part of a team;
  • Ability to follow and carry out directions
  • Knowledge of, and sensitivity to, social issues faced by formerly incarcerated men and women; and

Physical Demands:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily, be able to lift at least 50lbs and stand for long periods of time as needed.
