Position Summary:

Fortune Society is rolling out a new MAT program focused on Suboxone & related medications (but not methadone). The Director of Medication Assisted Treatment (“MAT”) Services is responsible for all aspects of this new clinical service. This includes operational planning; staff hiring and oversight; budget, productivity and contract monitoring; and day to day coordination among Fortune staff (both clinical and non-clinical), prescribers, and external referral sources.

MAT, and Client Engagement – The Director will have a proven track record in the field of recovery from substance use, and practical knowledge of what  hands-on experience is need for staff working with clients being prescribed and inducted onto MAT/Suboxone. This includes addressing issues of client ambivalence thru excellent clinical managerial supervisory skills. The successful candidate will also have experience responding to staff and leading staff that work directly with clients with assistance in redirecting the medication to be sold on the street.  The successful candidate should be experienced with MAT treatment and understands this field is rapidly evolving, and have the ability to keep up to date with the latest regulatory guidance.

 

Organizational SkillsThe Director will be confident in collecting, manipulating and reporting out data via Excel and other digital platforms.  This will extend to managing staff schedules, caseloads, referrals and administrative tasks. Multi-tasking, and ability to adapt to unexpected and sometimes urgent changes in schedule are required capacities. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.

 

Management and Supervision - The Director will operate under the supervision of the Senior Director of Behavioral Health. S/he will be experienced at overseeing staff, including managing underperformance, interpersonal conflicts, and similar issues.  The individual will have experience creating and modifying budgets to accommodate unexpected developments.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the operation and clinical management of the agency’s MAT program;
  • Responsible for identifying gaps and barriers in the successful delivery of MAT within Fortune, and opportunities to expand services;
  • Monitor the rapidly changing industry landscape, and identify opportunities for Fortune to apply for grants and contracts that fit Fortune’s mission.
  • Ensure the program is meeting all deliverables and milestones according to the contractual obligations and that all funder reports are accurate, completed in a timely manner and adhere to regulatory standards;
  • Collaborate with departmental leadership to balance the demand on clinical staff, recognizing that many clinicians are not exclusively focused on OUD and MAT as treatment.
  • Help to promote the program internally and externally to address the needs of individuals with Criminal Justice involvement. Additionally, educate and train staff to gain comfort with the process of identifying prospective candidates for MAT, and client engagement with the goal of getting the client to the point of agreeing to begin MAT.
  • As assigned by the Senior Director of Behavioral health, be prepared to serve as a liaison with external partners, including community based organizations, criminal justice organizations/agencies, and medical and mental health facilities, including DOCCS, DHS, CHS/Rikers, OASAS, and DOHMH.

 

 

Qualifications:

  • LCSW, LCMH or LMSW required. Additional CASAC credential is ideal.
  • A minimum of three (3) years of work experience in the field of substance abuse with supervisory experience, at least (1) of which must have been in the area Opiate Use Disorder (“OUD”) and the prescribing of Suboxone. Direct experience of induction of clients onto Suboxone is required.
  • Proven operational management experience, preferably working in the fields of substance abuse;
  • Strong leadership, interpersonal communication and managerial skills to lead, motivate and direct staff and work collaboratively across multiple departments;
  • Working knowledge of the health-care environment, especially as it relates to persons diagnosed with OUD;
  • Must possess strong written and verbal communication skills;
  • Experience with Microsoft Office and computer systems and applications;
  • Ability to encourage disenfranchised populations to see and obtain needed social services;
  • Strong follow-up, organizational and leadership skills;
  • Bi-lingual English/Spanish a plus;

  • Salary $60K-$70K 

 

Travel Requirements:  Requires travel to Fortune’s other Housing locations (W.97th St, Harlem, Bronx, East Harlem)
