Title: Transportation Specialist/Data Assistant

Unit: MOCJ - Post-release Services (Community)

Reports to: Director of Performance Improvement and Mentor Coordinator

Status: Full Time- Regular/Non-Exempt

Location: Long Island City (In addition to State Prison Facilities)

Days/Hours/Schedule:35 hours per week (various shifts)

Position Summary:The Fortune Society is seeking to fill the position of Transportation Specialist/Data Assistant. Under the supervision of the Director of Performance Improvement and Mentor Coordinator. The Transportation Specialist/Data Assistant will be responsible for working in the community (with limited engagement in the prisons), supporting individuals incarcerated in State prison facilities transition to the community or other release programs. The Transportation Specialist/Data Assistant will support with conducting pick-up of participants and transporting them to community office as well as community programs, evaluate service options, responsible for data collection/entry into multiple database systems.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct participant transport/pick-ups from NYSDOC prison to LIC community office or community program;
  • Conduct data entry, import/export, cleaning as well as documents, implement/maintain process to improve data collection, processing, management, data flow and data concerns;
  • Conduct data audits and review to ensure data integrity;
  • Build and maintain internal/external relationships;
  • Transport participants to scheduled appointments and meetings;
  • Assist staff members with picking/dropping off documents to stake holders or participants and families ;
  • Establish and maintain rapport with clients’ by scheduling reoccurring appointments;
  • Advocate for needed services, support with resources and internal or external referrals;
  • Maintain adequate records, enter and review case notes, log information in a timely manner;
  • Maintain and monitor confidentiality of participant files;
  • Process and submit all reports and documents accurately and in a timely manner;
  • Establish standards that will ensure appropriate boundaries and suitable behaviors;
  • All other duties assigned.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma/GED certification required; Some college required;
  • Documentation, analyzing, research, decision making, conflict resolution and people skills;
  • Adequate computer skills; Working knowledge of Microsoft, Excel and PowerPoint;
  • Experience in providing services to individuals involved in the criminal justice system;
  • Ability to be flexible- Days/Hours subject to change in accordance with program needs;
  • Must be highly motivated and have excellent oral and written communication skills;
  • Bi-lingual in English and Spanish a plus;
  • Innovation and initiative are a must;
  • Must be willing to work in a fast-paced environment with varying demands;
  • Time management and organizations skills;
  • Have a valid driver’s license with a clean driving history;

Travel Requirements:

  • Required to travel to State jails and Fortune Society offices.
  • May be required to travel to offices for meetings and/or trainings.
  • May be required to travel to other community-based agencies to meet with/or support clients.

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to drive, walk and stand for extended period of time.
  • Ability to travel corridors and walk up and down stairs frequently, daily.
