The Field Service Technician (FST) is responsible for providing technical support, troubleshooting and repair, of audio-visual systems located within the following types of environments: business/corporate, government, educational, houses of worship, multipurpose rooms, Corporate board rooms, and military command centers. Field Service resources are dispatched by our Global Services coordinators in response to service & warranty support requests.
The FST will deliver world class service, meet & exceed clients Agreement SLA’s and troubleshoot & resolve issues with minimal client impact. The FST is responsible to meet and exceed client business productivity outcomes including optimizing system performance and maximizing client technology up-time. FST is responsible for updating his / her service reports on a daily basis and following up on his/her RMAs and or part orders. This is a intermediate level position.

What will you be doing?
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Troubleshoot system issues to determine and find resolutions, ability to use a wide range of test equipment to troubleshoot and verify and document performance
- Provide customers an elevated level of AV field service and support
- Develop an on-going customer relationships, resulting in future customer loyalty
- Conduct Preventative Maintenance visits to ensure all client AV systems and rooms a are operating in at optimum levels
- Working with programmers to load updated Control Programming Files and test changes as necessary
- Escalate issues for further support through the FSTs field service supervisors, field service director, and Global Services team members -- and ultimately internal Engineering and/or Manufacturers as necessary
- Work with manufacturers to secure return authorizations (RMAs) and/ or parts replacements related to field service tickets
- Using ConnectWise service ticket system, the FST will track all time including travel and labor associated with his/her field service tickets. Additionally, the FST will articulate troubleshooting actions, next step actions, recommendations and/or resolution (prior to leaving client or before the end of day site where possible
- Provide operational support for meetings and events as required
- Able to read and understand functional design drawings as well as cable riser diagrams and all architectural drawings
- Coax, ethernet and fiber optic cable testing and troubleshooting
- Responsible for maintaining their toolkit, company vehicles (if issued) and material inventories.
- Responsible for maintaining their personal licenses, certifications and qualifications (some states have specific requirement in this area)
Complexity:
This level of technician will be responsible for performing tasks on client’s job sites.
Decision Making Authority:
This is a intermediate level position that generally works solo on job sites and requires excellent technical and tactical judgement related to service work. This position requires good diplomacy in working with our clients and other key stakeholders on the job sites. The Global Services Field Service Technician reports to the Global Services Regional Field Service supervisor and Director.
Physical Demands:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that may be met by an employee. Employee will be responsible for their safety while on job sites and to comply with all safety regulations in place by the Diversified Safety standards. Use of PPE is usually required on job sites. The employee can typically spend at least 50% of their time on their feet and be required to mobile around the construction site. The employee must have the ability to occasionally climb ladders, use stairs and lift and/or move materials up to 40 pounds on Jo sites. The individual is regularly required to use keyboards, test equipment and controls. Specific vision abilities required for this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision and depth vision. When not on client sites, the employee will experience normal office conditions and be required to use office equipment such as computers, peripherals, etc.
Travel:
Frequent travel by car and occasional airplane trips are required. Employee must possess a valid driver’s license in their state of residence. Employee will be required to use their own vehicle and will be reimbursed for mileage at the current corporate rate. Local travel to job sites (within a 2-hour driving distance each way) will make up 70-90% usually.
Safety:
Maintain and wear appropriate PPE as the job and tasks require it. Ensure hazards are addressed and rectified in a timely manner.
What do we require from you?
Education/Certifications:
- AVIXA CTS Certification is desired within first year
- Three or more years as an associate technician or related industry experience
- Must have a valid driver’s license and adhere to our insurance requirements
- Other relevant certifications may be required or preferred based on the technology focus of the position. To be discussed with the director.
Required/Desired Knowledge, Experience and Skills:
- Familiarity with a wide range of audio, video and networking equipment: Crestron, AMX, Extron, Biamp, QSC, Cisco, Luxul, Netgear, Polycom, Unilumin, Planar, Evertz.
- Knowledgeable of low voltage electrical concepts; i.e Ohms law
- Possess basic to advanced networking skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as good customer service skills
- Ability to diagnose, troubleshoot and resolve technical problems
