Medical Assistant/Scribe

Position Summary:

Under general supervision, the Scribe is responsible for providing patient care services, determining medical conditions, and preparing patients for examination and treatment under the direction of the Provider.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Prepare patients for examination, records vital signs and history, and provides treatment as applicable
  • Prepares exam/treatment rooms; select, setup, sterilize, and maintain medical supplies and equipment for procedures
  • Prepare and administer injections, change dressings, and facilitate wound management under providers orders
  • Collect blood, tissue, and other laboratory specimens through routine in-house testing procedures, and analyze and prepare for testing, log results, and perform lab call-backs
  • Document basic patient care and procedures, utilizing appropriate forms and electronic medical records
  • Schedule patients for tests, initial, and follow-up appointments if applicable in care setting
  • Instructs patients and family regarding treatment and medication instructions
  • Collaborate, take direction, and initiate actions that will allow the assumption of cross-functional team actions to ensure seamless patient care
  • Phlebotomy
  • Perform opening/closing clinic duties and patient call backs
  • Perform other duties as assigned 

Requirements and Qualifications:

  • Education: High school graduate or equivalent is required.
  • Certificate/License: Current Certification as a Medical Assistant through one of the following programs is preferred (RMA, AAMA, NCCT, CMAC, AMCA).  Current BLS certification is required.
  • Experience: A minimum of one (1) year of relevant experience is preferred.

Working Conditions and Physical Demands:

  • Requires prolonged sitting, frequent standing, bending, stooping and occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds. Requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard, telephone, photocopier, calculator and other office equipment. Requires normal range of hearing and eye sight to record, prepare and communicate appropriate reports. Requires an uninhibited driver’s license to accommodate travel to off-site meetings and workgroup sessions.
  • Fast paced clinical office setting with possible exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, medicinal preparations and other conditions. All team members are required to comply with federal, state and organizational policies regarding confidentiality.  Requires the ability to work under stressful conditions and occasionally work irregular hours.
