Peer Advocate Bridger - 4104-207-N
Under the supervision of the Program Manager, the Peer Advocate is responsible to conduct intakes and provide screening information for Substance Abuse and or dependency issues. The Peer Advocate develops and maintains relationships with clients, who have disabilities or social conditions. The Peer Advocate provides a non-threatening environment which promotes psychosocial rehabilitation and provides motivation for each member to become more productive in community life. The Peer Advocate helps foster an environment and a place where members can develop a sense of belonging and assists in facilitating groups and trips into the community.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Utilize experience and knowledge to support consumers/clients with their own crisis.
* Conduct intakes and provide screening information for substance abuse and or dependency issues and if necessary make referrals for further assessments.
* Conduct self-help groups during program hours.
* Provide one-on-one assistance through discussion and encouragement for consumers/clients in crisis.
* Reach out to community providers to assist management in recruiting clients in to the program.
* Provide mentorship to peers.
* Reports any issue that may be detrimental to the reputation of the program and /or Agency to the Manager of Recovery Services.
* Assist with trips, outings, and special events.
* Participate in support groups and informational groups around pertinent consumer/client topics.
* Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
* High School Diploma or GED
* Current or former client/consumer of the psychosocial program.
* History of mental illness and at least one year of symptom remission.
* Ability to read and write.
* Knowledge of computer programs (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, & Outlook).
* Good communication skills.
* Proven ability to work with people with behavioral disabilities.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
* Frequent walking, standing, & sitting.
* Should be able to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, & office equipment.
* Ability to read printed & handwritten materials.
* Ability to travel.
