We are currently looking for a Staff Metallurgist for our Houston, TX office.

 

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

 

Responsible for providing technical support to ensure quality materials are used in new facilities and perform technical analysis for existing facilities to assure safe operation of BWP facilities.

 

Additional responsibilities will include:

  • Writing and reviewing company material specifications
  • Reviewing and approving technical requirements of new pipeline material purchase orders
  • Reviewing and approving material suppliers and fabricators
  • Managing line pipe mill inspection crews
  • Investigating pipeline and equipment failures
  • Conducting root cause analysis and providing recommendations for mitigating issues found from analysis
  • Managing metallurgical labs and any other contract metallurgical services
  • Training or educating BWP personnel about metallurgical issues which affect BWP pipeline safety
  • Reviewing new regulations and industry standards and updating Company procedures as necessary
  • Representing BWP on various industry efforts which require complex technical knowledge and experience

 

REQUIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND EXPERIENCE:

 

  • Ability to read, understand, and apply directions, policies, procedures, guidelines, requirements, standards, and regulations
  • Excellent problem solving and written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to teach others about complex technical issues
  • Well organized with a high degree of initiative and motivation
  • Must have the ability to work efficiently and independently with minimal direct supervision
  • Strong computer applications skills including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Must be willing and able to travel (50% of time) and work in a variety of environments, including pipeline right-of-ways and manufacturing facilities

 

PREFERRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND EXPERIENCE:

 

  • Background in pipeline industry
  • Background in performing root cause analysis
  • Background in metallurgical lab testing procedures
  • Background in line pipe manufacturing
  • Working knowledge of pipeline regulations and industry standards such as API 5L, API 6D, MSS SP-75, MSS SP-44, ASME B31.8/B31.4, API 1104, and 49 CFR Part 192/195

 

REQUIRED EDUCATION:

 

  • BS in Metallurgical Engineering, or BS in Metallurgical and Materials Engineering from an accredited University

 

PREFERRED EDUCATION:

 

  • BS/MS in Metallurgical Engineering
