The Medical Department Chair (MDC) is responsible for facilitating the overall Clinical operation of a department within Borrego Health. The MDC is expected to lead the general development and improvement of its specific specialty in accordance with the visions and plans of Borrego Health.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Leadership, Vision, and Strategic Planning – The Medical Department Chair is expected to provide visionary leadership and oversee the department’s strategic planning. The expectation is that the Medical Department Chair will lead by example and conduct at a minimum Quarterly Department Meeting with all Providers of its specialty. Goals and outcomes should be documented appropriately.

  2. Management – The Medical Department Chair is to be available to participate and actively engage in the Executive Dental Medical Committee meetings (in person and/or via telephone conference as scheduled) as well as the monthly Credentialing Committee meetings (as applicable). The Medical Department Chair is responsible for contributing to the recruitment of the department by means of active participation during the interview process of potential candidates. Should any risk management cases need review and/or recommendations the Medical Department Chair will address accordingly in a timely manner. Medical Department Chairs may be requested to provide feedback with respect to annual performance review of other providers within their specific department when deemed necessary. Annual performance evaluations may be reviewed and approved by the Chief Clinical Officer prior to presenting.

  3. Clinical – The Medical Department Chair will remain current on the department’s best practices/protocols, and day-to-day workflows to be disseminated throughout the department. The Medical Department Chair will be held responsible for actively engaging in EHR and Scribe development, quality initiatives, and peer review. The primary objective is to ensure good quality of care and efficient use of resources. Compliance with regulatory agency requirements are a priority.

  4. The Medical Department chair will act as a liaison for their department and others within the organization.

  5. Other duties or responsibilities as assigned by CCO.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Medical degree from an accredited school.

  2. Demonstrated ability to practice medicine in the State of California by evidence of a current valid license.

  3. Demonstrated ability to prescribe controlled substances by evidence of a current valid Federal

    Controlled Substances Registration Certificate.

Special Conditions of Employment:

1. Appointed by the CCO on a yearly basis.
2. Actively seeing patients in clinical setting within Borrego Health.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  1. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
