Summary:

The Pharmacy Technician will provide technical assistance in the dispensing of prescribed medications and pharmaceutical preparations.

Compensation:

$20.60 - $25.99

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Administrative Functions:

  1. Retrieves and delivers inpatient medications orders and supplies.
  2. Prepares unit-dose medications specific to patient needs including patient’s weight, allergies, and age (pediatric, neonate, adolescent, adults, and geriatric).
  3. Performs medications order entry into the pharmacy computer system.
  4. Assists pharmacists in filling ambulatory prescriptions specific to patient needs including patient’s weight, allergies, and age (pediatric, neonate, adolescent, adult, and geriatric).
  5. Assists in record keeping activities in any assigned area.
  6. Maintains adequate drug inventories in pharmacy areas and patient care areas.
  7. Compounds bulk and extemporaneous pharmaceuticals specific to patients needs including weight and age (pediatric, neonate, adolescent, adult, and geriatric).
  8. Performs automated compounding repackaging and cart-fill.
  9. Prepares sterile products utilizing aseptic technique.
  10. Communicates effectively with other pharmacy employees, healthcare professionals, and patients while appropriately recognizing age (pediatric, neonate, adolescent, adult, and geriatric).
  11. Maintains a neat clean and organized work area.
  12. Demonstrates flexibility in staffing assignments.
  13. Adheres to internal controls established for department.
  14. Other duties as assigned.

  1. Provides quality care to the patients of Borrego Health, within the scope of practice outlined by state or federal law.
  2. Delivers care in accordance with established standard of care and accepted community standards.

  1. Maintains privacy and security of all patient, employee, and volunteer information and access to such information. Such information is accessed on a need to know basis for business purposes only. 
  2. Complies with all regulations regarding corporate integrity and security obligations. Reports unethical, fraudulent, or unlawful behavior or activity.
  3. Upholds strict ethical standards

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Diploma from an approved High School or GED Equivalent.
  2. California State Board of Pharmacy Registration.
  3. Education/certificate to attain License. 
  4. All staff that is presently working within a clinic is required to have a Current and Valid CPR and First Aide certification on file with the Human Resources Department. This is for clinical and administrative staff. This new license requirement is mandatory for continued employment, CPR and First Aide certification must be obtained through the American Heart Association. Internet certificates do not comply and for this reason are not valid.
