The American Trucking Associations is looking for a dedicated and resourceful Senior Manager, Customs, Immigration & Cross-Border Operations to join their International Trade Policy and Cross-Border Operations team. The Senior Manager executes policy on behalf of ATA members doing cross-border and international business with government agencies dealing with customs, immigration, other operational and safety cross-border issues, as well as trade policy.

The primary role of this position is to represent ATA and the motor carrier industry on technical customs issues at U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP). Secondary tasks include working with CBP on non-customs issues, like Customs Trade Partnership Against Terrorism. This position also monitors and tracks legislative and regulatory activity in the U.S., Mexico, and Canada on issues impacting cross-border freight movements.

BACKGROUND REQUIREMENTS:

Education & Experience -

  • BS/BA required in a relevant discipline (public administration, political science, international trade, etc.).
  • Three to five years of relevant work experience is required, including previous experience dealing with U.S. customs issues.
  • Knowledge of Canadian and/or Mexican customs is a plus.
  • Knowledge of the regulatory rulemaking process, including filing comments, is preferred.
  • Experience in international trade and immigration policy preferred but not required.
  • Understanding of U.S. visas programs and the visa application process is a plus.


Skill Requirements -

  • Must have excellent written and oral communications skills and have the ability to prepare comments and reports to government agencies throughout North America.
  • Working knowledge of the agencies this position interacts with is preferred.
  • Experience in the transportation industry is not required.
  • Spanish fluency is preferred.
