The vision of the American Trucking Associations, Inc. (ATA), is to be the recognized leader in transportation advocacy representing the safest, most responsible and financially successful motor carriers. Our mission is to effectively advocate and communicate efforts designed to improve safety and profitability for our members.

The Director of Legislative Affairs position communicates the needs of ATA members and works with the Legislative and Regulatory Affairs teams to plan and strategize a clear and concise message on all legislative issues affecting the trucking industry.  This position will interact with ATA staff at all levels, ATA members, Members of Congress, congressional staff, state trucking associations, coalition partners, industry stakeholders, and all branches of government as related to the interest of ATA.   

We are looking for someone with solid political insight; if you rapidly analyze and disseminate information this could be your next career move!  An ideal candidate would have prior experience working in the House of Representatives on issues related to transportation and trucking.  Proven success working in the Legislative or Government affairs function of a trade association is preferred as well. 
 

Your main responsibilities will be to maintain strong and positive relationships with Members of Congress and their staff and keep ATA members informed on legislative issues related to trucking.  This may involve face-to-face meetings, phone, email, and other correspondence.  We are also looking for stellar writing skills; this position may assist in writing Congressional hearing testimony, correspondences, and ATA position statements.


Education/Relevant Experience-  

BS/BA, preferably Political Science or related field;
Minimum of 5 - 10 years of relevant experience working on Capitol Hill, Administration, federal agency and or private sector experience; 
Well-developed understanding of the federal legislative process.
