Buyer/Planner

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE: Buyer planners determine what goods their organizations need for use or resale, and then buy those products. Initially, they must evaluate potential suppliers based on their product quality, cost, delivery times and customer service.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: – Other duties may be assigned
- Develops and manages production schedules for a production cell
- Assesses and establishes capacities of work cells through continuous review of set up times, routings and run-rates of production machinery
- Meet inventory goals while achieving finished goods service levels to customers
- Ensures production schedules are in sync with purchased materials and schedules work cells to streamline and optimize Aspen’s total supply chain costs
- Negotiates with suppliers for materials and services by achieving the lowest total cost
- Selects, evaluates and develops new sources supply
- Manages the Approved Supplier List
- Responsible for managing supplier delivery and quality performance
- Establishes account/credit and terms
- Places purchase orders and expedites materials as required to support production schedules
- Follows environmental and safety regulations and acts in compliance with US laws
- Complies with safety and corporate guidelines on business ethics
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Purchasing, Supply Chain Management, Operations Management or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- 3-5 Years Purchasing and/or Production Planning experience in a manufacturing environment preferred
- ERP software experience particularly, an in-depth knowledge of MRP preferred
- Familiarity with total cost analysis concepts
- Proficient in developing and providing detailed forecasts of demand requirements to suppliers based on historical sales data
- Excellent understanding of statistical concepts used to formulate safety stock quantities to meet customer service levels
- Experience with implementing and maintaining a Lean Material Flow manufacturing environment is a plus
- Able to demonstrate a track record of accomplishments in supply chain management
- Detailed and analytically oriented
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
- Experience with ERP forecasting software
- Proficient in Microsoft Office including, word, excel and Outlook
- Certification in APICS or ISM a plus
