SUMMARY:

Under the general guidance of the Human Resources Director, the Human Resources Generalist II/III will provide support for a wide variety of human resources activities in areas of compliance reporting, safety, benefits and leave administration. The Human Resources Generalist III provides Human Resources policy guidance and interpretation and ensures issues and inquiries are addressed in compliance with Human Resources policies, state and federal employment laws.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

HR Generalist II

  • Safely perform job duties
  • Under the general guidance of the HR Director, executes the ASI Injury and Illness Prevention Plan (IIPP); ensures compliance with state and federal laws relating to safety posting requirements, including the timely posting of notifications in all ASI departments; conducts safety walks and audits.  
  • Reviews job hazard analysis to ensure safety and PPE requirements are integrated before implementation.
  • Under the general guidance of the HR Director, reports Workers’ Compensation claims with the carrier and provides managers with work restrictions per the work status report.
  • Administers employee leave of absence, including calculating pay coordination and responding to state agencies.
  • Collaborates with the HR Director and benefit broker to administer health and welfare benefits. Serves as contact with benefits broker and providers, and conducts annual open enrollment meetings, reviews benefits guide and renewal contracts for accuracy.
  • Ensures timely benefit enrollment of eligible employees and ensures timely termination of coverage as employees off-board.
  • Chairs the Safety Committee and ensures committee member roles and responsibilities are followed.
  • Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local safety laws, regulations; OSHA logs are accurately maintained and posted annually.
  • Trains supervisors and employees on HR-related safety training.
  • Under the advisement of the HR Director, chairs the Employee Engagement Committee, including collaborating with the HR Coordinator in the coordination of employee engagement events and wellness activities.
  • Prepares written documentation relevant to employee safety and benefit offerings for the ASI employee newsletter.

HR Generalist III

In addition to the aforementioned duties, the HR Generalist III:

  • Independently investigates work-related illnesses and injury claims, determines root cause, and recommends corrective actions, training, and safety process/task improvements. Maintains electronic documents specific to employee(s)’ work-related accidents or injury.
  • Manages Affordable Care Act (ACA) and retirement plan eligibility consistent with terms of eligibility. File annual 1095C reporting; provide testing data and census information to carriers.
  • Independently chairs the Employee Engagement Committee, which includes collaborating with the HR Coordinator in the coordination and development of employee engagement events and wellness activities.
  • Serves as the backup Custodian of Record and HRIS Administrator
  • May serve as backup to one or more functions within the human resources department including recruitment or payroll.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

HR Generalist II

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources Management, Business Administration or related field; relevant experience may be considered in lieu of education.
  • At least three years of experience in a fast-paced Human Resources setting including workplace safety
  • Knowledge of HR programs, policies and practices, Proficient knowledge of CA and federal employment laws
  • Ability to maintain high level of confidentiality and security of information
  • Ability to work well as a part of an in-person and on-site, human resources team
  • Ability to read, interpret regulatory laws, policies and procedures
  • Ability to lean and retain information
  • Ability to exercise excellent judgement and discernment
  • Ability to properly prioritize daily work
  • Ability to utilize appropriate resources in performing job
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including overtime, based on department needs
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment including but not limited to copier, fax, computer, printer, etc.
  • Knowledge of windows-based personal computers – Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook

HR Generalist III

In addition to the aforementioned qualifications, the HR Generalist III will possess:

  • A demonstrated ability to perform leave of absence duties and create relevant correspondence;
  • A demonstrated ability to administer employee benefit plans, including 403B or 401K retirement plans
  • At least two years of experience and proficient knowledge using Human Resources Information Systems
  • Ability to work independently with a high degree of accuracy and acumen.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources Management
  • Advanced knowledge of federal and state labor laws
  • Knowledge of payroll processing and wage and hour laws
  • Human Resources certification from SHRM or HRCI
