The Aquatic Center's purpose is to provide high quality boating and safety programs through education, recreation and competition; and to bring regional and national recognition to Associated Students Inc., and Sacramento State, increasing the value of the students degree.

The Sacramento State Aquatic Center is a proud program of Associated Students, Inc. The Aquatic Center is a National Boating Instruction Safety Center located on beautiful Lake Natoma. The Aquatic Center offers a variety of classes, camps, facility reservations, team building, youth groups and equipment rentals.  We are open to the general public.

The Aquatic Center offers the following activities: Sailing, Windsurfing, Standup Paddling, Kayaking, Canoeing, Outrigger Canoeing, Rowing, Water Skiing, Wakeboarding, and Jet Skiing.

SUMMARY:  The Youth Program Supervisor works under the direction of the Associate Director from May through October serving as the coordinator for youth summer camps and reservations.  Oversight may include Youth Programs, Water Enrichment Training and events in the absence of the Water Front Supervisor. This position may supervise up to 40 summer camp staff and Youth Programs Team Lead.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • From May through October primarily work under the direct supervision of the Associate Director as the supervisor for youth camp.  This requires proficiency in sailing, windsurfing, canoeing, kayaking, and boating safety.  Supervise the daily activities of the summer camp participants, youth programs and youth staff.
  • With support of the Associate Director, train, supervise and evaluate all boating & safety instructors for Youth Camps.  Oversight may include boating & safety instructors for W.E.T., Youth Programs & events in the absence of the Water Front Supervisor.
  • Ensure proper staffing levels for scheduled camps and programs that meet compliance with all safety regulations.
  • Meet weekly with Associate Director to assist with staff support.
  • Audit and monitor records for all staff certifications and qualifications.
  • Instruct classes as needed (i.e. camps, lifeguarding, waterski, jet ski, team builds, etc.).
  • Assist and fill in for the front office staff and special events staff as needed.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

·         Ability to teach in all boating areas

·         Ability to appropriately use all power boats

·         First Aid, C.P.R., and lifeguarding  certification (must be current)

·         Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds

·         Must be able to work in a variety of weather conditions and be prepared for both heat and cold

 

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

·         Ability to maintain a Class B driver’s license and meet ASI driving criteria

·         General knowledge of Aquatic Center general operations

·         Knowledge of windows-based personal computers – Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook

·         Aquatic/boating knowledge or familiar with aquatic/boating environment

·         Proficiency in “Park Pro Software” and “Ceridian”.

·         C.P.R., First Aid, California Boating Safety Certificate (must have required certifications within six months of hire)

 

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to fingers, handle, feel, reach with hands and arms, talk and hear. The employee must:

  • Frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to climb, kneel, squat, reach overhead

 

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT (Choose one only)

  • Combination of indoors and outdoors. When Outdoors exposed to rain, heat and cold temperature for 6-8 hours a day
