Peak Adventures’ purpose is to kindle personal growth, leadership, and connections through experiences in the outdoors.
 

ASI’s Peak Adventures is an outdoor adventure program dedicated to getting Sac State Students outside. Peak Adventures provides guided outdoor trips, low cost gear rentals, full service bike repair at The Bike Shop, summer youth camps and team building at The Challenge Center.

SUMMARY:

The Operations Manager is responsible for the daily oversight of the sales and retail operations of Peak Adventures.  This includes Bike Shop and equipment rentals, staffing, training, scheduling, staff evaluation, risk management, customer service, and equipment maintenance.  The Operations Manager assists the Director with implementation of Peak Adventures short and long-term goals in alignment with the strategic plan.  The Operations Manager assumes responsibility and oversight of Peak Adventures in the absence of the Director or as assigned by the Director.

 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Safely perform job duties.
  • Manage all sales and store-front operations, which includes customer service, equipment rental and bicycle repair, program and class registration. Retain and organize departmental records. Continuously evaluate and make recommendations regarding operating practices, procedures, workflow and equipment and supply utilization in order to ensure smooth and efficient operations.
  • Lead by driving sales with a focus on Peak Adventure’s customer and colleagues. Act as the direct supervisor to the Sales Specialist. Provide day-to-day direction to staff as the first-line supervisor, and coordinate workflow.
  • Oversee accurate and timely processing and submission of personnel transactions.  Coordinate schedule with sales and service staff as required. Provide necessary training and support in sales, software support and customer service.
  • Compile a variety of financial reports to be used in preparation of the annual budget.  Prepare billing, follow-up on outstanding receivables and process refunds. Resolve discrepancies.
  • Attend internal management meetings and other ASI and campus-wide meetings as requested.
  • Develop curriculum for bike related classes and clinics
  • Represent ASI Peak Adventures on various campus committees to ensure that Peak Adventures remains visible and adaptive to meeting the needs of the Sac State and greater community.
  • Coordinate with Bike Shop Coordinator and Sales Specialist to ensure effectiveness in hiring, training and scheduling of quality and qualified part-time staff.
  • As a member of the Peak Adventures management team, plan and implement sales and service- related programming.  Program planning includes, but is not limited to, securing reservations, acquisition of necessary program supplies, and coordination of all registration materials, budgeting, and executing an event with excellent customer service.
  • Oversee database maintenance and procedure documentation for all sales and service operations and serve as a backup for customer service needs at the front desk or Bike Shop, when necessary.   
  • Support Peak Adventures in the stewardship of American River Parkway – Mile 8.  Attend volunteer meetings and schedule quarterly clean ups.
  • Seek to increase customer base and maximize revenue while balancing our non-profit, mission oriented philosophy.
  • Prepare reports and submit work orders through the campus, as needed.
  • This position will be responsible for opening, and at times, closing of the Peak Adventures Office.
  • Ability to work hours outside of a normal work week.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • A minimum of 2-5 years management in a retail or specialty store.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills as demonstrated by an ability to draft reports and other communications, effectively present to management and internal/external business partners, and interpret instructional documents such as operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to work outside a typical work week, including evenings and weekends
  • Experience with purchasing equipment and managing inventory systems.
  • Point of Sale and cash handling experience
  • Previous budget experience
  • Supervisory experience
  • Knowledge of window based personal computers – Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams
  • Ability to obtain a Commercial Class C (or higher) driver’s license and meet ASI driving criteria.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Teaching experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in any field
  • Bike shop management experience
  • Proficiency with bicycle maintenance/repair
  • Current CPR and First Aid, or higher

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to fingers, handle, feel, reach with hands and arms, talk and hear. The employee must:

  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
    • Must be able to climb, kneel, squat, reach overhead
    • Ability to appropriately use power tools

  • Outdoors exposed to rain, heat and cold temperature for up to 8 hours a day
