The Resource Center has been providing services to persons with disabilities in the Chautauqua County area since 1958. From our humble beginnings as a gathering of parents and concerned citizens who wanted to provide educational and training opportunities for persons with developmental and intellectual disabilities, The Resource Center has grown into a comprehensive agency providing services to thousands of persons with all types and levels of disabilities.
 
The Resource Center is the largest non-governmental employer in Chautauqua County with more than 1,300 employees on its payroll.
 
The mission of The Resource Center is to support individuals with disabilities and other challenges in achieving maximum independence, contributing to their community, experiencing lifelong growth, and enjoying quality of life.

PHYSICIAN 

RESPONSIBLE TO: Director of Health and Health-related Services 

FUNCTION: To provide direct primary medical care through the performance of appropriate assessments, to order diagnostic tests as necessary, to make diagnosis, treat and discharge the patient with appropriate instructions and prescriptions in accordance with Department of Health regulations. 

SPECIFIC DUTIES: 

  1. The Primary Care Physician shall, at all times, complete histories and physical examinations, diagnostic examinations and order diagnostic tests, procedures and/or prescribe medications to satisfactorily treat patients.
  2. As a Family Practitioner, must be willing see infants, children, adolescents, adult men and women regardless of disability, race, sexual orientation, religion, marital status, color, national origin or ability to pay.
  3. The Primary Care Physician shall be professionally responsible for services performed by assisting medical staff. These duties shall include: a. on-line supervision of professional performance b. quality assurance chart review with counter-signature c. continuing medical education d. quality of professional performance
  4. Maintains written documentation of the patient’s medical appointment including: subjective patient concerns, objective observations made by the practitioner, and a summary of the assessment and plan of care.
  5. Must be knowledgeable and able to implement current first aid and/or emergency procedures.
  6. Must be willing to apply for hospital admitting privileges and follow care through hospitalization as appropriate and follow up after care.
  7. Participates on agency committees as required to provide professional guidance and advisement as necessary. Acts as health care resource, interdisciplinary consultant and patient advocate.
  8. May provide in-service education on medical health care issues as needed.
  9. Is responsible for meeting productivity expectations of volume of units of service while maintaining quality standards. 1
  10. Develops standard protocols for specific diagnostic categories.
  11. Willingness to provide professional collaboration to Physician Assistants and/or Nurse Practitioners.
  12. Performs all other duties as requested by Director of Health Services.


REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Ability to work with a diverse cross-section of general population, as well as, special needs populations. Abilities commensurate with those of current general medical practice. Awareness of Primary Medical Care clinical operations and procedures. Must be willing to network with hospitals, local physicians and medical organizations as advocate for The Resource Center. The ability to communicate verbally and in writing in a timely manner. Flexibility regarding working hours. Physical condition commensurate with job responsibilities. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: License or proof of eligibility to practice as a Physician in the State of New York. This is a position that is exempt from overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act. As an Exempt employee, incumbent will receive an annual salary commensurate with assigned responsibilities and salary classification; however, incumbent is expected and required to work as many hours as necessary to fulfill job responsibilities.
