Job Description: Supervisor of Environmental & Regulatory Affairs, U.S. Operations

Position Summary

Supervisor of Environmental & Regulatory Affairs is responsible for overseeing the environmental performance of WML by developing, implementing and monitoring environmental strategies that promote sustainable development in the U.S.

Supervisor Responsibilities

This position does not have formal supervisory responsibilities over other employees.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Develop and implement environmental strategies such as sustainable development, resource conservation and waste reduction.

• Conducts programs to train managers and employees in compliance requirements and practices.
• Assists management in maintaining compliance with air quality, wastewater, mining permits, and other regulatory approvals/authorizations/Acts.
• Tracks laws and regulations that might affect the organization’s policies or practices.
• Works closely with Operations personnel to prevent, reduce, or eliminate potential or actual risks to personnel at Westmoreland locations.

• Prepare compliance reports for regulators, including analyzing and interpreting environmental monitoring data.

Typical Physical Demands

Requires prolonged sitting, some bending, stooping and stretching. Occasionally lifting files or paper weighing up to 30 pounds. Requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard, photocopier, telephone, calculator, and other office equipment. Requires normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare, and communicate appropriate reports. Requires mobility sufficient to travel.

Typical Working Conditions

Travel routinely required. Occasional evening or weekend work. Office located in Billings, MT.

Education and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree with a major in Environmental/Civil Engineering (preferred) or Environmental Science.
• Minimum 5 years of related work experience.
