General Responsibilities:

The goal of the Addiction and Recovery Services Behavioral Health clinician is to effectively support the implementation of SBIRT (Screening, Brief Intervention & Referral to Treatment) program at Thundermist Health Center to increase identification and treatment of adults, ages 18 and older, who may be at-risk for substance misuse or diagnosed with a substance use disorder. The Addiction and Recovery Services Behavioral Health Clinician will assist in the screening of health center patients for alcohol, tobacco and other drug use as part of the routine health center visit, assist primary care providers, and conducting other screens, diagnosis and assessment, and treatment or referral of patients with behavioral health problems, including substance abuse and depression.

 

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:

  • Knowledge and ability to independently carryout behavioral health screening, diagnosis, assessment, treatment planning, and treatment or referral of behavioral health patients
  • Strong knowledge base of medical terminology and procedures
  • Previous experience in a primary care setting, ideally in a federally qualified health center (FQHC)
  • Ability to work in a high energy, quickly paced environment and maintain a professional demeanor and attitude
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with patients, their families, internal and external staff
  • Computer skills including word processing and data entry
  • Must be eligible for RI State Licensure: LICSW, LMFT, or LMHC. 
  • Master’s degree (M.A., M.F.T., M.S.W.)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience treating patients with diagnosed with addictions
  • Oral and written proficiency in English and Spanish

Significant Job Functions:

  • Work in close partnership with the primary care clinical teams to provide full SBIRT screening as well as other screens, diagnosis and assessment, and treatment or referral patients with behavioral health problems
  • May conduct brief interventions or refer to Thundermist Health Center’s Integrated behavioral health department or community treatment providers
  • Conduct patient screening using standardized tools
  • Formulate treatment plans based on assessments and provide substance abuse counseling and some brief treatments.
  • Provide clinical and consultative treatment services that are strength based and client centered.
  • Coordinate with clinical providers, social service providers, and care coordinators
  • Document all aspects of the screening, diagnosis and treatment or referral in the EHR
  • Complete all required documentation for treatment planning, billing, and licensure within a timely manner
  • Participate in professional activities such as: continuing education activities, clinical conferences, meeting with representatives of community groups
  • Respond to crises, assess need, formulate disposition, and implement appropriate care
  • Ensure patient confidentiality at all times
  • Perform other necessary duties as required by Thundermist Health Center to achieve the goal of providing high quality behavioral health services
  • Performs special projects such as analysis and presentation of data in spreadsheets, graphs, or tables; preparation of PowerPoint presentations; coordination of grant applications.
  • Handles scheduling and coordinates/organizes meetings including mailings, minutes, refreshments, teleconferencing equipment, and conference calls.
  • Answer incoming telephone calls for senior leaders and administrative office.
  • Prepares correspondence, memos, reports, minutes, and forms.
  • Facilitate customer service hotline responses: receive and document calls; send them to respective managers for resolution; document resolution.
  • Performs other general office duties including filing, faxing, copying, mail, banking, and distribution of supplies
  • Arranges purchases and maintenance of medical/office equipment and supplies.
  • Sorts and reviews mail.
  • Assists with purchases and maintenance of medical/office equipment and supplies.
  • Processes timesheets.
  • Assists with facility management.
  • Handles urgent requests and immediate needs in the absence of the senior leaders and managers.
  • Assists with public and staff focused special events.

 

Physical Effort/ Environment:

  • This is a hybrid position, allowing duties to be performed from home or at a Thundermist site.
  • Generally, works in an office environment with no exposure to blood borne pathogens
  • Physical Demands: Requires walking, bending, sitting, standing, writing, reading, telephone use, data input into computer
  • Mental Demands: Ability to cope with continual changing priorities under potentially stressful conditions
  • Manual Dexterity: Ability to use a keyboard, telephone

Work Schedule Demands:

  • Full time position, typical schedule would be weekdays, normal business hours. 

Communication Skills:

  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
  • The ability to effectively work and communicate with a multi-disciplinary team, other services providers, and patients is critical to the success of this position.
  • Must develop and submit written reports accurately detailing service provision.
