General Responsibilities:

Assure all the needed preparing of the patient for the visit is done, processing patients in a timely manner, assisting with procedures, providing overall patient satisfaction, maintaining the flow of the patient visit, assuring that the environment is kept safe and clean. Pull and prepare charts as needed. Obtain test results as needed. File all appropriate paperwork in chart correctly.

Required Qualifications:

1. High School graduate.

2. Post-secondary training in Medical Assistant program is required.

3. Bi-lingual desirable.

4. Organizational skills.

5. Computer literate desirable.

6. Basic Life Support Certification

Physical Effort/Environment:

1. Requires much walking, bending, and occasional lifting.

2. Frequent use of the phone, writing, typing, doing vital signs and verbal communication.

3. Need to be able to clean instruments appropriately and clean up waiting rooms and exam rooms as needed.

Work Schedule Demands:
 

40-hour week; one evening shift and occasional unscheduled overtime.

Communication Skills:
 

Communicate with patients, providers, and colleagues on a daily basis. General communication over the phone and taking messages. Skill in decreasing patient stress about blood drawing an asset. Confidentiality of Information: Frequent access to patients’ medical records and computer information system. Confidentiality must be maintained with patients’ information at all times.

Significant Job Functions:
 

Clinical
 

1. Responsible to ensure all charts and forms for the office visit are ready for the provider, i.e. encounter form, chart forms, labs, and appointment list.

2. Receive patients and take their vital signs, Wt, BP, HT pulse, temp. obtaining patient history/reason for visit, assisting the patient in case management as needed.

3. Obtain need for medication refills; and record patient data in charts.

4. Perform routine diagnostic tests per THA protocol.

5. Responsible for assisting in answering calls for their provider and taking accurate messages.

6. May assist the provider with phone calls as needed.

7. Prepare patients for examinations and tests.

8. Operate and maintain clinical equipment.

9. Scrub speculums and tools, and properly sterilize them in an autoclave machine.

10. Properly dispose of medical waste and sharps.

11. Manage the flow of the provider.

12. Assist providers in rooms as needed.

13. Clean and stock rooms.

14. Take inventory of medications and supplies as needed, checking expiration dates, and appropriate destruction of expired medications.

15. Secure department at end of shift if last to leave; unplug equipment, lock medication cabinets, and shut off lights.

16. Adhere to OSHA, JCAHO, and licensing standards.

Administrative
 

1. Complete paperwork as needed. Maintain appropriate departmental logs as needed.

2. Order paperwork/clinical supplies as needed for effective clinic flow.

3. Stamp lab and outpatient pads, and HIV forms.

4. Order culture supplies from the state lab as needed.

5. Responsible for maintaining printer in lab, putting updated information in the chart and encounter form on top of chart for provider.

6. Able to obtain lab results from LMC computer program.

7. Maintain self as a well-trained, competent, efficient, and committed medical assistant.

8. Perform other job-related duties as needed.
 

Medical assistants starting pay is 18.25 per hour with a .75 cent differential for those who can speak a second language at a site where there is a need. $500 bonus after 90 days employment.
