Technical Director
Job Overview:
The Technical Director is responsible for making sure the materials and process are in place for the day-to-day operations of the plant. They will also oversee product and process development for new and existing products and ensure that proper technical procedures are followed.
Duties and Responsibilities
· *Coordinates and oversees materials and compounds used in current products manufactured in the plant along with current processes used in the manufacturing of products.
· *Works with Quality and Production to identify root causes to customer and plant issues.
· *Consults with General Manager and Plant Manager to create long-range operating and manufacturing goals specific to the needs of the organization.
· *Develops new products and processes from concept to testing to production.
· *Collaborates with sales and marketing to determine market potential and/or market demand for new products.
· *Oversees progress and timeliness of projects.
· *Reviews project reports to ensure projects are on schedule and within budget.
· *Coordinate REACH requirements for European shipments.
· *Oversee environmental requirements and testing.
· *Make sure SDS’s and Labels meet all requirements.
· *Performs other related duties as required.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Plans and coordinates the work of technical staff.
- Establishes and communicates priorities to technical staff.
- Oversees technical staff and ensures that they meet goals and objectives.
- Recruits additional technical staff as needed.
- Conducts performance evaluations that are timely and constructive.
- Provides training and mentoring as needed
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
· + Must have a good understanding of rubber compounding materials and processes.
· + Extensive technical knowledge of technical and product development.
· + Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
· + Excellent managerial and supervisory skills.
· + Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
· + Excellent financial skills and ability to analyze financial data.
· + Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.
Education and Experience
· *Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or Chemical Technical required; Master’s degree in Technical or Business Administration preferred.
· *At least ten years of Rubber/Compound experience required.
· *At least five years managerial experience desired.
Physical Requirements
· *Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
· *Must have the ability to lift 40 pounds.
· *Ability to traverse manufacturing facility.
· *Some travel required to visit customer facilities and attend trade shows.
