Mold Shop - Mold Setter


SUMMARY: Responsible for fabricating, maintaining, and repairing production tooling and fixtures for secondary trim operations. Mold makers usually work regular business hours and spend much of their time in factories, with long hours spent on their feet. Additionally, there are a lot of repetitive motions associated with this job, such as twisting or turning, in an environment with potentially distracting noise levels. This job is well suited to people who are technically and mechanically skilled, have strong math skills, enjoy problem-solving, and have good communication skills to liaise with design teams and colleagues.


JOB FUNCTIONS: Duties may include but are not limited to the following.



  • Review prints and plan the building of molds/fixtures

  • Builds, modifies and repairs tooling and trim fixtures as required

  • Welding both MIG and TIG

  • Use various machinery and equipment such as lathes, milling machines, grinding machines, press brakes, shears, iron workers, and band saws.

  • Inspects damaged or defective tooling, fixture and parts to determine/plan corrective action.

  • inspect products and select the correct shop equipment, precision measurement devices and other tools needed for a job.

  • Train personal on the use of new mold or trim fixtures you’ve built

  • Hand trim samples/prototype parts as required.

  • Simple wood working/constructing simple wood forms/fixtures


SECONDARY DUTIES AS REQUIRED:



  • Trouble shooting of production issues.

  • Bend, stretch, lift, and pull 45.50 LBS

  • May need to stay in odd positions for an extended time period.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

SKILLS & ABILITIES:




Education: High school diploma or G.E.D. preferred but not necessary.




Experience: Basic Print reading, welding aluminum and steel, sandblasting, and polishing. Operations of basic equipment such as press brake, lathe, shear, band saws, and a variety of basic metal and wood working hand tools. Rotational molding a plus. Basic machining a plus.


Computer Skills: Word, Excel


Knowledge: Communicate effectively with co-workers and supervisors. Able to read English and spelling for daily paperwork.


Certificates & Licenses: Welding is a plus


Other Requirements: Interpret written and oral instructions. Work effectively with minimal supervision. Analyze situations and take appropriate action. Work independently and in a team.

Strong manual dexterity to be able to keep their arm steady and maneuver their wrists and fingers to create the molds
