Position: Procurement Forester

Location(s): Currently the log buying baskets of the following:

    Natchez, MS; Hazlehurst, MS; Bay Springs, MS

Overview                                                

In effort to support, sustain and continue our growth at Jones Lumber a staff forester has the responsibility to provide logs that will enable the mills to run at predetermined targeted goals.  As raw material permits, goals of 190,000 bf per location per day could be expected.

The forester will be invested in Jones Lumber and therefore strive to abide by the company’s safety culture.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

• Source timber tracts
• Effectively estimate volume of different products on tracts
• Coordinate with logger and be able to effectively communicate the ending goal
• Seek new opportunities (ie land purchases, partnerships, additional outlets, extended log baskets)
• Maintain loggers for purchased tracts
• Understand and follow BMP’s (Best Management Practices)
• Ability to negotiate with landowners and consulting foresters
• Monthly inventory counting
• Additional tasks as they are assigned by members of management

Qualifications

• Degree (ideal candidate would have a B.S. or technical degree in forestry but not required)
• If no forestry degree then a minimum of 5 years forestry related experience needed
• Strong communication skills both oral and written
• Reliable, dependable, accurate
• Organized and punctual
• Competent with basic computer skills
• Self-motivated and forward thinking, resourceful and willing to take initiative
• Ability to work outdoors (extreme heat and cold)
• Should not become overwhelmed with complex tasks
