Lumber Inspector (Jones Lumber - Natchez)

Jones Lumber Company is currently seeking qualified and experienced Hardwood Lumber Inspector to join their Natchez sawmill operations team.

Position Summary

• Accurately inspects the lumber for quality and color to ensure the products are meeting customer needs

General Responsibilities

• Work safely - know, understand, and follow all safety rules
• Inspects lumber using NHLA and proprietary grading rules and standards
• Ensures customer specifications (length, width, grade, etc.) are being met
• Safely maintain flow of the product
• Keeps workspace and surroundings clean and neat to foster productivity and efficiency
• Other assignments as made by management

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or Equivalent
• NHLA certification preferred
• Previous experience in the hardwood lumber industry preferred
• Understanding of NHLA standards and markings
• Enthusiasm for being part of a team and working in a team oriented environment
• Self-motivated, resourceful, and willing to take initiative
• Ability to make decisions quickly utilizing hand eye hand foot coordination
• Ability to work in a fast paced environment
• Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift 50 pounds
• Ability to bend, stretch, twist, or reach with body, arms, and/or legs
• Ability to exert muscle force in repeated or continuous motion for long periods
• Ability to stand for an extended period of time
