Summary

The Vice President, Operational Risk represents the association and advocates its policy positions regarding operational risk, cybersecurity, data security, privacy, and other assigned areas primarily before financial regulatory agencies, ICBA leadership bankers, private-sector organizations, senior staff of peer organizations and the Congress. The Vice President, Operational Risk is responsible for developing and leading strategic and advocacy plans to advance the interests of community banks.

 

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Responsible for developing and implementing strategic advocacy plans in areas of responsibility to advance the interests of community banks and ensure strategic plans are consistent with ICBA’s mission.
  • Demonstrates advanced expert knowledge in areas of responsibility by staying abreast of, and communicating, regulatory, legislative, operational, and market developments and their impact on the community banking sector.
  • Fosters ICBA’s relationships with regulatory agencies, and public- and private-sector organizations playing crucial roles in shaping operational risk policies that significantly impacts community banks.
  • Collaborates across the organization to develop and rollout banker-facing resources.
  • Leads or serves on internal working groups and task forces.
  • Represents ICBA on industry organizational boards, governance-focused committees, advisory councils, committees.
  • Provides subject-matter expertise internally and externally.
  • Develops and recommends policy positions and association strategy in areas of responsibility.
  • Prepares comment letters and other advocacy letters and documents, policy summaries, white papers, and other written resources
  • Speaks at ICBA and industry conferences.
  • Responds to banker and media inquiries, as well as other requests for information in areas of expertise.
  • Provides subject matter and technical expertise to assist advocacy communications and legislative efforts, including assisting in the preparation of testimony and participation in meetings.
  • Writes for ICBA and industry publications.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

 

Qualifications

  • Four-year college degree; advanced degree preferred.
  • At least seven years of related experience in the financial services industry or with a trade association, financial entity or consulting firm.
  • Expert knowledge of operational risk in the financial sector, and policy issues.
  • General knowledge of bank technology.
  • Strong policy analysis, written and verbal communications, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple projects and reporting staff.
  • Ability to think strategically and work in cooperation with others to produce effective results.
  • Ability to travel.
