Data Engineer

Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced data engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining our data lake and proprietary transportation management systems. You will work closely with the software development team and the data analytics team to ensure our systems are optimized to handle large data sets and provide the necessary information for decision making. The role requires a strong background in developing and connecting APIs and working with large data sets.

Key Responsibilities:

•Design, develop and maintain our data lake, proprietary TMS and rating engine, and assist with other data-related projects

•Design internal and external APIs

•Create and maintain source to output data workflows

•Manage data pipelines

•Develop metadata management system

•Manage a diverse set of data platforms both on prem and cloud

•Work with the software development team to ensure the systems are optimized to handle large data sets

•Work with the data analytics team to provide the necessary data for decision making

•Create data models and develop data processing pipelines to ensure the accuracy and consistency of the data

•Develop and implement ETL processes to integrate data from different sources

•Monitor and maintain the data infrastructure to ensure data availability, data accuracy, and performance

•Resolve database and access and performance issues

•Develop maintain and change control of data stores

•Test and maintain a testing protocol for data store modifications

Job Requirements

Education/Experience

•Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field

•5+ years of experience in data engineering and software development

•Strong experience in designing and building APIs using REST, SOAP, or GraphQL

•Experience with SQL and NoSQL databases

•Experience building a data lake

•Working knowledge of views, stored procedures, and ETLs

•Experience with data modeling techniques ODS/ Data Lake/ Analytical Stores

•Experience working with finance and business units to develop metrics and dashboards

•Experience in working with large data sets and distributed systems

•Knowledge of data modeling, data warehousing, and ETL processes

•Experience with data modeling tools (Erwin, Power Design)

Preferred Qualifications:

•Experience working in the logistics or transportation industry.

•Experience with data visualization and reporting tools such as Tableau, Power BI, or Looker

•Business Process modelling

•Familiarity with Python, Java, or Scala

•Knowledge of cloud-based data storage and processing technologies such as AWS, Azure, or GCP

•Experience working in an Agile environment

Skills Required

•Qualified candidate must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills along with relationship-building, follow-up, and problem- solving skills.

•Candidate must have the ability to work in a fast-paced team environment.

•Must be able to work with others along with working independently. Must be detail-oriented and must meet scheduled deadlines.

•Ability to multi-task in completing scheduled activities along with additional activities. Ability to manage communication in a positive manner.
