QA Automation Manager
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Manage the distributed team of SDETs and Manual QA Analysts that enforces quality control in the Scout Product
- Participate in hiring, performance review and goal setting
- Mentor direct reports to continuously grow and develop engineers and analysts

- Ensure clarity and alignment around team and business objectives
Duties/Responsibilities/Primary Function:
Own testing and execution strategy for the Scout platform
- Work closely with engineering leadership to build a multi-layer testing strategy that integrates in the overall software development lifecycle and is optimized for the right balance of speed to execute, test coverage and quality of output, including:
Mapping out needs for unit, functional, integration, end-to-end testing
Areas of automation vs manual coverage
Integration into SDLC
- Establish test KPIs that measure testing speed, coverage and quality
- Establish regular objectives for these KPIs in collaboration with engineering leadership
- Monitor and report on those KPIs, and adjust strategy and execution to achieve goals
- Strategically prioritize test coverage for areas of the product based on criticality, usage and risk.
- Monitor tests for false-positives and unreliability, and remedy problematic test cases
Technical leadership of the automation team
- Own technical roadmap for the automation test suites that cover the Scout Product
- Contribute to design, code and code reviews
- Coach team members and promote best practices
- Promote culture of test automation by exploring and identifying test automaton opportunities at all layers (unit, integration, UI) of the application stack
- Contributes to improvements of the code structure towards improved maintainability and testability
- Participates in test framework discussions; advocates for improvement in framework/tooling
Required Skills/Abilities/Profile:
Proven record designing and contributing to large, well-structured suites of automated UI tests
Expertise in Selenium or similar web-testing frameworks
Proficient with Git or similar distributed version control systems
Experience with Jira is a plus
Experience with Jenkins, CI (continuous integration)
Experience with test automation tooling for functional and performance/load testing
Solid experience in the software development life cycle utilizing agile methods
Solid experience with software quality assurance methodologies
Proficient working with cloud technologies
Proficient working with testing web applications
Has a test automation mindset, i.e., prioritizes a test automation approach first
Experience working with and on a distributed team
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Experience testing REST APIs
Inherent willingness to be a total team player, i.e., do what it takes for the team to succeed and achieve
Proficient with Python
Experience with AWS is a plus
Ability to operate independently in a remote environment
Education and Experience:
7+ years of professional experience writing automated UI tests, preferably for web applications
2+ years of experience managing engineers
Bachelor Degree in Computer Science or related field is a plus
Physical Requirements:
Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer of up to 8 hrs per day.
